Innumerable Gibbons

Death Cab For Cutie’s first release was an 8-song demo cassette tape put out on Elsinore records in 1997. It would be re-released as a full album in 2002.

Their first full length album “Something About Airplanes” was released in 1998 on Barsuk Records.

“We Have The Facts and We’re Voting Yes” Barsuk, 2000

“The Forbidden Love EP” Barsuk, 2000

“The Photo Album” 2001, Barsuk

“The Stability EP” 2002, Barsuk

“You Can Play These Songs With Chords” was expanded into a full album with 10 unreleased tracks in 2002.

“Transatlanticism,” 2003, on Barsuk Records was the first breakthrough for the band, reaching 97 on the Billboard Top 200 and gaining mentions in popular TV, such as Fox’s The OC and HBO’s Six Feet Under.

“Studio X Sessions EP” 2004, iTunes

“The John Byrd EP” 2005 Barsuk. A live CD of previously released material. The sign in my record store’s window said “Only 1000 pressed” and I immediately bought it and subsequently regretted buying it.

“Plans” 2005 Atlantic Records. First release on a major label. Did worse critically, did better commercially. Peaked at #4 on the Billboard Top 200.

“Narrow Stairs” 2008, Atlantic/Barsuk. This cover was created by EE Storey, the primary artist for Tegan and Sara. This album reached #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and was rated better than both “Transatlanticism” and “Plans.”

“The Open Door EP” 2009, Atlantic/Barusk. Clearly a return to form, cover-wise, with simple art and design.

“Codes and Keys” 2011, Atlantic. Peaked at #3 on the Billboard Top 200, did slightly worse critically, closer to “Plans.” Cover art by Nicholas Harmer.
